Kris Anderson's History on the Web

Kris created my first website over 13 years ago when he was 14 years old. It wasn't much to look at, but no website on the internet back in 1997 was. During that time he got my first taste of HTML, and even a little JavaScript. Even though he didn't know much about what he was doing and it was a lot of trial and error, he knew he loved it.

Throughout high school Kris created several websites just for fun. Nothing he created during that time was geared towards making a profit. He simply loved creating new and different sites, and he enjoyed learning new tricks along the way. Kris spent this time learning all the ins and outs of HTML, JavaScript, and he even started to get my feet wet in Adobe Photoshop creating his own graphics.

In Kris' second year of college he came up with the idea of creating an e-commerce site to sell one product. He didn't have much money at the time, so he had to learn how to do everything on his own. This included finding and customizing ecommerce software, creating a logo and images for the site, and figuring out how to help people find that amazing site he had created!

Kris made my initial investment on his credit card and purchased three cases of the product he wanted to sell. He spent $800, and wondered at the time if he had gotten in over his head. After a couple of months of no sales, suddenly the traffic started coming in. He kept optimizing the site and researching new ways to get more customers. Within four months he had sold every product he had purchased and he was now running a profitable ecommerce business.

Kris took that profit, paid off his credit card, and decided to expand on the different types of products he was going to carry. He found a popular company in his industry and ordered directly through them. Kris placed a nearly $6,000 order on his credit card and his jaw dropped when he saw delivery truck drop off the products on a pallet. He got busy adding more products to the store, optimizing, and generating revenue.

Business continued to grow, and it only made sense for him to continue expanding. Within two years of having started hid company, he had over $60,000 worth of product sitting in his apartment. Kris had to rent a 2 bedroom apartment in order to operate the business from his home. His office was stacked to the ceiling with industrial shelving. His dining room also was stacked with multiple free standing shelves. He even had to rent a garage just to store all the products he was selling. His home had literally become a warehouse with a small kitchen and bedroom added on.

About three years after starting that business he had taken on so many products and the business became so time consuming dealing with shipping every day, that he began to worry about keeping up with his college work load. He talked with some of his suppliers and worked out a deal with one of them where they would take over all the shipping operations and leave him to work on simply running and expanding his business.

After graduating college, Kris was able to devote 100% of his time and energy into his business and that is when things started to grow at record numbers. He spent all of his time researching ways to make his website rank better organically in search results. He learned new programming languages and learned how to administer servers. He learned how to do everything on his own so at the end of the day he knew it was done right. Shortly after graduating college the business changed from barely keeping him financially secure, to a business he could rely on every month. He no longer had to worry about my monthly cash flow with all the revenue his business was generating.

He went from doing roughly $60,000 gross sales while in college, to doing upwards of $500,000 after college. It wasn't until roughly seven years into running that business, that he began to grow tired of the industry he was working in. Kris no longer had a passion in the products he was selling, and he knew that it was time to sell his company. In late 2009, Kris sold his ecommerce business of nearly eight years. After selling that business, he immediately created Visual Web Consulting.

Kris created Visual Web Consulting in order to help others reach their goals. He loves working on websites and he knows many people out there want to own their own online business. There are hundreds of companies out there that offer graphic designs, or search engine optimization, but he couldn't find a company that was offering was he can offer: a full service website consultant that can manage nearly every aspect of operating a successful online business. Not only can Kris help increase your rankings through search engine optimization, but he can also increase your site's usability (which will increase your conversion rate), do your graphic design work (based around usability for better conversions... not just flashy images), administer your server, and much more. Kris is the guy you can turn to when you want to get stuff done, and get it done correctly the first time.
